Deyan Enev was born in Sofia. He studied at the English Language High School and graduated from Sofia University in Bulgarian Language and Literature.

He is author of collections of short stories Chetivo za noshten vlak (1987), Konsko evangelie (1992), Lovets na hora (1994), Klaneto na petela (1997), Ezi-tura (2000), Gospodi pomiluy (2004), Vsichki na nosa na gemiyata [Everybody Standing on the Bow] (2005), Gradche na ime Mendossino (2009), 7 koledni razkaza (2009), Hora na peroto (2009), Narod ot isihasti (2010), Bulgarcheto ot Alyaska. Sofiyski razkazi (2011). The selection of short stories Everybody Standing on the Bow had three editions (2005, 2007, and 2009) and was published in English under the tile Circus Bulgaria. Deyan Enev is also author of over 2, 000 pieces of journalism in a variety of genres – interviews, reportage, articles, essays, and feuilletons.



The book Chetivo za noshten vlak [Readings for the Night Train] was awarded for debut fiction in Yuzhna prolet; the collection Lovets na hora [Man Hunter] received the annual award for fiction of Hristo Botev Publishing House and was published in Norway (1997). For Ezi-tura [Heads or Tails] Deyan Enev received the National Hristo G. Danov Award for Fiction (2000) as well as the annual Prize for Literature of the Union of Bulgarian Writers. Gospodi pomiluy [Lord Have Mercy] (2004) was awarded the top prize for New Bulgarian Fiction of Helikon. Enev is a laureate of the Zlaten lanets Award of the newspaper Trud for best short story in 2006, as well as many other awards and titles.

The works of Deyan Enev have been translated into English by Kapka Kassabova and Christopher Buxton.
